Vol. 3: Double Bill Kristy Farkas objects, instruments, electronics & Goodchild Grady Duo clarinet & percussion Using a variety of small instruments and found objects combined with field recordings and electronics, Kristy Farkas creates quiet, delicate soundscapes as a means to express, explore and deepen our connection with nature and place.. With Kevin Grady's array of portable "suitcase percussion" and Melissa Goodchild on clarinet, you can expect to hear combinations of sounds not typical of classical chamber music. Melissa and Kevin will often use extended techniques and mimic each other's sound to inspire the direction of their performance. |

Vol. 2: Double Bill Keenan Mittag-Degala solo piano & Stephen Parkinson guitar, field recordings Keenan Mittag-Degala's interdisciplinary artistic practice explores the convergence of popular and experimental phenomena. Through the use of musical instruments he cultivates spacial illustrations that manifest his inquiries into the nature of sound, form, and aestheticism. In his Sofa Sessions performance, Mittag-Degala will explore these inquiries through the piano and invite his audience to do the same. Stephen Parkinson will perform a set with electric guitar and natural and processed “field” recordings to create experimental music in an improvised setting. Parkinson is a composer, improviser and performer currently living in Victoria after spending many years in Toronto. |

Vol. 1: Boyle, McFetridge & Young Patrick Boyle, trumpet & flugelhorn George McFetridge, piano James Young, double bass Sofa Sessions launches with the daring Victoria-based trio, Boyle, McFetridge & Young. While their shared experience in jazz is the starting point, their sound typically ends up in a place not easily classifiable, referencing a wide range of contemporary musics. Combining intuitive composition with free improvisation, this is music of the unknown moment, right now. It is pure adventure. |
