Songs for Tree
Songs for Tree is an ode to our planet's endangered old-growth forests, specifically the last standing old-growth trees on Vancouver Island, Canada. The project aims to draw attention to the interconnectedness between humans and the environment, to foster a sense of responsibility and reciprocity with the more-than-human world. Mostly, it is a reflection on my deep love of nature and being in the outdoors and the many gifts that spending time in nature provides. The project includes a collection of 10 scores which suggest ways in which we might find, rediscover, or deepen our connectedness with the natural world through deep listening, play, imagination, and reflection.
PERFORMANCES:
Sunday, May 28, 2023 | 3:45 - 5:00 PM
As part of the Sound Genres symposium at the University of Victoria, Songs for Tree will be included in the soundwalk, Go out and listen.

Sofa Sessions Vol. 3: Double Bill
Kristy Farkas objects, instruments, electronics
Goodchild Grady Duo clarinet & percussion
Victoria, BC
Using a variety of small instruments and found objects combined with field recordings and electronics, Kristy Farkas creates quiet, delicate soundscapes as a means to express, explore and deepen our connection with nature and place.
With Kevin Grady's array of portable "suitcase percussion" and Melissa Goodchild on clarinet, you can expect to hear combinations of sounds not typical of classical chamber music. Melissa and Kevin will often use extended techniques and mimic each other's sound to inspire the direction of their performance.
